2016 HAS BARELY started, but we already know it’s going to be a good year for telly.
Sherlock may have kicked things off in style with his Christmas special, but there’s lots more to come. Take a look at just ten of the great TV shows comin’ atcha this year.
Rebellion

What’s it about? The five-part series charts the birth of modern Ireland, beginning in 1914 as Europe is at war, and taking in the 1916 Rising.
Who’s in it? Charlie Murphy, Sarah Greene, and Brian Gleeson.
When’s it on? The exact date is TBA, but expect it to be on our screens early enough in 2016.
Vinyl
What’s it about? Produced by Mick Jagger and directed by Martin Scorsese, this HBO series explores the music business in 1970s New York.
Who’s in it? Bobby Cannavale (Boardwalk Empire), Olivia Wilde, and Ray Romano.
When’s it on? It’ll air on Sky Atlantic on February 15, just hours after it debuts in the US.
The X-Files
What’s it about? Oh, just two strangers called Mulder and Scully returning to solve some extra-terrestrial mysteries.
Who’s in it? The radiant Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny.
When’s it on? The first episode airs in the US on January 25 – there’s no word on when it’ll be shown in Ireland just yet.
Better Call Saul

What’s it about? Season two of the excellent Breaking Bad spin-off will give us yet more insight into how small-time lawyer Jimmy McGill became Saul Goodman.
Who’s in it? Bob Odenkirk, Jonathan Banks, and Michael McKean.
When’s it on? Streaming on Netflix from February 16.
Divorce
What’s it about? Written by Ireland’s own Sharon Horgan, Divorce tells the story of a woman who decides she wants to end her marriage and make a fresh start.
Who’s in it? Sarah Jessica Parker, Thomas Haden Church, and Molly Shannon.
When’s it on? TBA.
Preacher
Den Of Geek Den Of Geek
What’s it about? Based on the cult comic book series, this show follows a preacher on a mission to actually find God.
Who’s in it? Dominic Cooper, Ruth Negga, and Joseph Gilgun.
When’s it on? The series will air in mid-2016 in the US - we’ll be keeping our ears open for an Irish release date.
Game of Thrones
What’s it about? LOTS of questions must be answered in season six - is Jon Snow sticking around? Where’s Bran? How are they going to get on without the guiding hand of the novels?
Who’s in it? Emilia Clarke, Aidan Gillen, and Peter Dinklage, to name but a few.
When’s it on? April 2016.
First Dates Ireland
What’s it about? Loads of Irish people going on first dates, under the watchful eyes of TV cameras.
Who’s in it? Well, it could star your friend, your ex, your cousin… Anyone.
When’s it on? Expect it on RTÉ2 in early 2016.
Limitless
Sidereel Sidereel
What’s it about? Based on the 2011 film, this series follows a man who discovers a powerful drug that opens the full possibility of his brain.
Who’s in it? Jake McDorman, Jennifer Carpenter, and Bradley Cooper, who guest stars in the first episode.
When’s it on? It’ll hit Sky Living later this month.
Twin Peaks
